About turbo housing
Turbo housings are the two outer shells of a turbocharger. The compressor housing, usually cast aluminium, guides fresh air from the intake into the engine; the turbine or exhaust housing, cast in heat-resistant iron, channels exhaust gas onto the turbine wheel. A cracked, eroded or rubbed housing can be replaced on its own while keeping the core. Listings cover compressor housings for compact SUVs such as the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano and housings for Cummins heavy-duty engines. Buyers compare A/R ratio, inlet and outlet sizes, flange type and mounting bolt pattern.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match the turbo model and the housing part number.
- Check the A/R ratio and the inlet and outlet diameters.
- Confirm the flange type, V-band or bolted, and bolt pattern match the core and pipework.
- Check the compressor bore contour gives the right clearance for the wheel.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether the housing is new or reconditioned, and its casting material.
- Ask whether clamps, bolts and gaskets are included.
