About pressure plate
The pressure plate, or clutch cover, bolts to the flywheel and uses a diaphragm or coil spring to clamp the clutch disc so engine power passes to the gearbox. Pressing the pedal releases that clamping force so the disc can spin free. It is sold alone as a pressure plate assembly or as a full clutch assembly with the disc and release bearing. Buyers compare outer diameter, clamp load, diaphragm finger height, mounting bolt pattern and fit to the engine and gearbox. Workshops, fleet operators and commercial vehicle dealers replace them during clutch overhauls.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check outer diameter and mounting bolt pattern against the flywheel.
- Look for the rated clamp load and even diaphragm finger height.
- Confirm the matching clutch disc diameter and spline count when buying a kit.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether the assembly includes the clutch disc and release bearing.
- Ask for the vehicle and engine models it fits and the warranty period.
