About auto rubber coupling
A rubber coupling joins two rotating parts while cushioning the shock between them. In two-wheelers, the coupling rubber sits in the rear wheel hub and dampens jerks from the chain sprocket; in cars and light commercial vehicles, flexible rubber discs link the propeller shaft to the gearbox or differential. Natural rubber and synthetic compounds are moulded to fit hub segments or bolted flange patterns. Buyers compare Shore hardness, outer dimensions, number of segments or bolt holes and resistance to oil and heat. Spares retailers and repair workshops replace them when a drive feels jerky or knocks under load.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check outer dimensions and the segment count or bolt-hole pattern against the original part.
- Look for the stated Shore A hardness of the rubber compound.
- Confirm resistance to oil, grease and heat for drivetrain use.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the vehicle models and OE part numbers each coupling fits.
- Ask whether metal inserts or sleeves are bonded into the rubber.
