About gear lever
A gear lever is the part a rider or driver moves to change gears. On motorcycles it is the foot-operated shift pedal clamped onto the gearbox shaft spline; in cars, tractors and commercial vehicles it is the hand lever that works the selector linkage or cables. Levers are made in forged steel, cast aluminium or pressed steel, finished in chrome, black powder coat or plating, often with a rubber toe pad or knob. Buyers compare spline count, lever length and bend, material, finish and fit to the vehicle model. Spares shops stock them for crash and wear replacements.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check the spline count and bore diameter, or the mounting end, against the original lever.
- Confirm lever length and bend profile for the vehicle model.
- Look for the material (forged steel or aluminium) and finish (chrome or powder coat).
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the vehicle models the lever fits.
- Ask whether the rubber pad, knob and clamp bolt are included.
