About engine mount
An engine mount, often called an engine foundation in the Indian spares trade, holds the engine and gearbox to the vehicle frame while soaking up vibration and torque reaction. Most are a steel bracket bonded to a rubber block; some cars use hydraulic mounts filled with fluid for a smoother idle. Each vehicle carries several mounts, left, right, front and rear, each with its own shape. Buyers compare rubber hardness, bonding strength, bracket thickness, bolt positions and fit to the model and position. Workshops replace worn mounts when they hear clunks on gear changes or feel heavy cabin vibration.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Confirm the mount position (left, right, front, rear or gearbox) and the vehicle model.
- Check bolt spacing, stud size and bracket shape against the original.
- Look for the rubber hardness and a clean, even rubber-to-metal bond.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether the mount is solid rubber or hydraulic.
- Ask for the OE part number cross-reference and the warranty period.
