About camshaft
The camshaft opens and closes the intake and exhaust valves in time with the crankshaft, so its lobe profile shapes how an engine breathes, idles and pulls. Overhead-cam petrol and diesel engines carry one or two camshafts, made from chilled cast iron or forged steel with ground, hardened lobes and journals. Listings here include camshafts for popular Kia and Hyundai models, identified by OE part number. Buyers compare lobe lift, journal diameters, the timing reluctor or phaser mounting and surface finish. Engine rebuilders and service workshops order them for valve-train repairs and engine overhauls.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match the OE part number and engine code, including intake or exhaust position.
- Check lobe lift and journal diameters against the engine specification.
- Look for hardened lobes with a clean ground finish.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether the camshaft comes with the timing gear, sprocket or phaser fitted.
- Ask whether the part is new OE, aftermarket or reconditioned, and the warranty offered.
