About auto water pump
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine block, cylinder head and radiator so the engine holds a steady working temperature. Most car pumps are belt or timing-belt driven, with a cast aluminium or iron housing, a sealed bearing shaft and a metal or composite impeller; some newer engines use electric pumps. Buyers compare impeller material and vane design, mechanical seal quality, bearing life, flange pattern and whether a gasket or O-ring is included. Workshops often change the water pump together with the timing belt, and fleet operators stock them for overheating repairs.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match the OE part number and engine code, including the flange bolt pattern and outlet position.
- Check impeller material (cast iron, steel or composite) and vane count.
- Confirm the shaft spins smoothly and the mechanical seal is factory fitted.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether a gasket, O-ring or pulley comes in the box.
- Ask for the warranty terms and whether the pump is OE or aftermarket.
