About auto air filter
An engine air filter cleans the intake air before it reaches the combustion chamber, protecting the cylinder, piston rings and sensors from dust. Paper element filters with pleated cellulose or synthetic media suit most cars and commercial vehicles, while oiled foam filters are common on two-wheelers and in dusty off-road use. Panel, round and cylindrical shapes are made to fit specific air boxes. Buyers compare filtration efficiency, dust-holding capacity, pleat count, sealing gasket quality and exact dimensions. Service workshops, fleet maintenance teams and spare parts dealers replace them at regular service intervals.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check outer dimensions, shape and gasket profile against the OE part number.
- Look for the stated filtration efficiency and dust-holding capacity of the media.
- For foam filters, check foam PPI and whether the foam comes pre-oiled.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the cross-reference list of OE part numbers and vehicle models.
- Ask for the media type, cellulose, synthetic or foam, and the recommended change interval.
