About wheel bearing
Each wheel turns on a bearing that carries the car's weight and the side loads of cornering while letting the hub spin freely. Front and rear wheel bearings appear here. Designs range from double-row angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings to hub units with an integrated flange and ABS encoder ring. Buyers compare bore, outer diameter and width, sealing type, ABS sensor compatibility, load rating and the vehicle model. Bearings serve passenger cars, SUVs and light commercial vehicles, and are usually replaced when a hum or growl rises with speed.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match bore, outer diameter and width in mm to the vehicle and wheel position
- Confirm the design: double-row ball, tapered roller or hub unit
- Check for an ABS magnetic encoder ring when the car has wheel-speed sensors
- Look for sealed construction with rubber lip seals on both sides
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the dynamic load rating and the bearing part number
- Ask whether the kit includes the hub nut and circlip
