About steering rack
Rack and pinion steering turns the rotation of the steering wheel into side-to-side movement of the tie rods. A pinion gear meshes with a toothed rack inside a housing, helped by hydraulic or electric assistance. The listed assemblies cover BMW 5 Series F10 and F11, Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205, Audi A4, A6, Q3 and Q5, and an electronic rack for Volkswagen group cars such as the Skoda Superb. Buyers compare OEM part number, assist type, steering ratio, tie rod end fitment, electrical connector and whether the unit is new or remanufactured.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match the OEM part number (for example 2054605901) and the chassis code
- Confirm the assist type, hydraulic or electric (EPS), and the connector layout
- Check the steering ratio, lock-to-lock turns and the inner tie rod thread
- Look for intact bellows boots and leak-free seals on hydraulic racks
What to ask the supplier
- Ask whether the rack is new or remanufactured, and the warranty period
- Ask whether the EPS unit needs coding or calibration after fitting
