Stew Masala (स्टू मसाला) is an Indian stew spice blend for vegetable, meat and lentil stews, soups and broths. Its non-oil-extracted spices are ground so the essential oils stay intact, giving a balanced taste with layers of warmth, spice and depth. It suits traditional Indian stews such as vegetable, lamb and chicken stew, hearty soups with lentils, root vegetables and legumes, slow-cooked or pressure-cooked meals, broths and stocks, and vegan or vegetarian stews. The blend features warm cardamom, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon and bay leaves; the pack's ingredient panel reads "Chilli, Star Anise, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Turmeric etc." It is free from preservatives, fillers and artificial ingredients. A vegetable stew uses 1 tablespoon of masala, cooked 1-2 minutes with sautéed onion, ginger and garlic before broth and vegetables simmer for 25-30 minutes; a tablespoon of flour or cornstarch in the last 10 minutes gives a thicker stew. Stored airtight in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, it keeps up to 12 months; the pack reads "Best Before :- 12 Months." Per 100g it holds protein 12.0 g, total fat 15.0 g, carbohydrate 4.0 g, energy 350.0 Kcal and total sugars 3.5 g.
