Palm Oil Mill Plant

About this product

Tiny palm oil mill for producing crude palm oil locally at the plantation, with a crushing capacity of one tone palm fruits per hour and a steam-driven design that makes the whole mill power independent. It is designed to help small plantation owners, especially in West African countries, process their own fruit, and one mill has been exported to Liberia. Its machines are completely different from a regular tiny oil mill. The mill comprises a sterilizer, palm fruits stripper, digester kettle, palm oil expeller, nut fibre separator, oil clarifier tank, water tube boiler and three steam engines: one for the expeller, one for the stripper and one driving an alternator that produces electricity for small motors and lighting. Palm bunches are steam-sterilized at atmospheric pressure for about 20 minutes in a cylindrical vessel that then tilts from vertical to horizontal, dropping them onto perforated trays to drain. The very sturdy stripper uses revolving beater arms on a 63mm Sqare shaft to throw the bunches until the fruits fall through square screen bars onto a bottom conveyor; a 10 HP steam engine drives it. Some experts say palm fruits separate only partially unless sterilized first, leaving a mill running at a loss. The belt-driven digester kettle sits on the expeller and cooks the fruits evenly in a jacketed vessel with revolving arms and live steam. The expeller has a chamber of 230mm dia x 750mm long, presses oil from the fruits while leaving the palm nuts whole, and has a cone gap that adjusts while running; it crushes 1000 kg of palm fruits per hour or more. A 20 hp steam engine drives the expeller and kettle, while the boiler is sized to give 40 hp for the oil expeller. Oil drains into a tank with a steam-jacketed bottom that keeps it hot. The nut fibre separator is an inclined revolving cylinder of wire woven screen, 1.5 mt. long and 40 cm in dia, turned slowly by an electric motor. The water tube boiler supplies at least 1.5 tones of steam per hour, also covering 10 hp for the stripper and 20 hp for electricity generation. The clarifier lets oil rise above water and drains it through a screen into a smaller inner vessel. The mills are built in batches of 20 under a group purchase scheme, and every buyer who joins receives a discount. Building 20 mills takes about 5 to 6 months; once 20 buyers have paid, the machinery is to be made and dispatched in 4 months, with all mills dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks in the order payments arrive. A local coordinator collects orders, guides payment and port delivery and serves buyers free of cost, paid by a 5% commission from the maker. Progress is shared through photographs and videos in a WhatsApp group, and plantation owners fully own their machinery. The green-painted machines run from flywheels and drive belts.
