Cake elevator, a bucket elevator for oil mills that lifts seeds and oil cake to feed equipment set at height, supplied mainly as a chain driven unit, with belt driven elevators as the second type. As part of an automatic oil mill setup, the elevator handles material during operation and reduces considerable manpower, and it is especially versatile where installation space is limited. In a groundnut line, the first elevator feeds pods from ground level to a decorticator at 6 feet height; a second elevator then lifts the seeds from the decorticator into a large overhead hopper that stores seed for crushing in the first expeller. These are the two main uses. Elevators are an optional addition: buyers with budget room gain considerable labour savings, while budget plants in countries with lower labour costs may skip them. The elevator is a tall, enclosed teal casing with a motor and drive wheel at the head and a feed hopper at the base.
