About side stand

Parked on its side stand, a two-wheeler leans on a pivoting steel leg bolted to the frame, held up or down by return springs. Side stand length decides the lean angle, so the stand must match the model, suspension height and tyre size. Many recent bikes add a side stand sensor that cuts the engine when the stand is down. Buyers compare length, steel grade and thickness, foot pad size, pivot bolt diameter, spring hook position, finish, sensor provision and model fitment.

Buyer's guide

What to check

  • Match the stand length to the vehicle model for the correct lean angle
  • Check the steel thickness, foot pad size and pivot bolt diameter
  • Confirm the spring hook position and the sensor mounting point
  • Look for a powder-coated or black-painted finish that resists rust

What to ask the supplier

  • Ask whether return springs and the pivot bolt come with the stand
  • Ask for the vehicle models it fits
