About hand guard
Mounted at the ends of the handlebar, hand guards shield the rider's knuckles and the brake and clutch levers from branches, flying stones, wind and spills. Wrap-around types use an aluminium backbone with plastic shields bolted at the bar end and near the clamp, suiting off-road and adventure bikes. Open-ended roost deflectors are lighter and attach at one point, common on street bikes such as the KTM Duke. Buyers compare backbone material, mounting points, handlebar diameter fit, shield size and lever clearance. Adventure, trail and touring riders are the main buyers.

What to check
- Check whether it is a wrap-around guard with an aluminium backbone or a plastic roost deflector.
- Confirm the handlebar diameter (22 mm or 28.6 mm tapered) and bar-end fitting for the target bike.
- Look for clearance from levers, switches and the throttle housing at full steering lock.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the bike models covered by the mounting kit.
- Ask whether the plastic shields are replaceable, and in which colours.
