Clay deep frying pan, also called an aappam khadai, sold as the open pan alone. It is a wide, shallow, rounded pan with a flat rim that extends into a small lug on each side for lifting. The clay has a reddish-brown terracotta colour and a matte finish. A pan of this kind is used for deep frying and for cooking appams. The seller says its claypot cookware retains natural nutrition in the food, reduces oil consumption, adds nutrients (calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium) and helps to stay fit and healthy.
