About rubber grommet
Rubber grommets line holes in panels, sheet metal and enclosures so cables, wires, tubes and fasteners pass through a cushioned, sealed edge. They also damp vibration and keep out dust and water. Sizes are given by outer diameter, inner diameter or groove width, with common listings from around 12 mm to 70 mm across, plus large sizes for bigger openings. Compounds include EPDM for outdoor use, nitrile for oily areas, and neoprene or silicone for heat. Buyers compare hole size, the panel thickness the groove suits, hardness and compound. Automotive, electrical panel and appliance makers use them in volume.

What to check
- Check the outer diameter, inner diameter and groove width in mm against the panel hole and sheet thickness.
- Confirm the compound: EPDM, NBR, neoprene or silicone, for weather, oil or heat.
- Check the hardness in Shore A for easy fitting and a firm grip.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for a dimensional drawing and tolerances for each size.
- Ask whether custom sizes can be moulded, and the mould charge.
