About cable gland
Wherever a cable enters an enclosure, junction box, motor or panel, a cable gland grips the sheath and seals the entry against dust and water. Threads come in PG sizes such as PG 7 and in metric sizes, and most are fitted with a lock nut on the inside of the panel wall. Bodies are nylon (polyamide) for general use, or brass and stainless steel for heavy-duty and armoured cables, with IP68-rated seals for wet locations. Buyers compare thread size, cable clamping range, IP rating, material, temperature range and UV resistance. Panel builders, electricians and OEMs buy them in bulk.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check the thread size (PG 7, PG 9, M20 and so on) and the cable clamping range in mm.
- Confirm the IP rating, such as IP68, and the seal material (neoprene or silicone).
- Check the body material: nylon PA6 or PA66, brass or stainless steel.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the operating temperature range and UV-stabilised grades for outdoor use.
- Ask whether lock nuts and sealing washers are included, and the pack size.
