Standard Ceramic Industry (S.C.I.) is a manufacturer and exporter of ceramic bonsai pots and planters, decorative ceramics and blue pottery tableware in Khurja, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in 1967 as "Standard Pottery" by ceramic artist Munshi Abdul Kareem and later restructured by his grandsons Salman Ahmad and Kamran Ahmad. The family has worked in pottery since around 1840, and an ancestor, Sheikh Karim Ullah, was commissioned by the British Regime of India to demonstrate the potter's wheel at the Coronation Exhibition in England in 1911.
Bonsai pots and planters make up the largest part of the catalogue, 15 of its 26 products: indoor table pots (Smiley Cup, Scalloped Rim, Football, Handi and Dice pots); antique flower planters shaped as a tortoise, elephant, hen and hand; rectangular, oval printed and round bird-print bonsai pots; and garden planters in tapered printed, diamond-pattern and ball (Flow) designs. Decorative items include flower pots and vases, large flower vases, an oil burner / diffuser, a money box, ceramic mushroom miniatures, and aroma diffusers in tea-light (SCI-742) and electric (SCI-501) versions. The Blue Pottery (Mughal Art) line covers a blue pottery tea set, a black-and-white Mughal Art tea set, a milk mug and a vase. The company also makes ceramic cabinet and door knobs, reed diffusers, decorative lamps and wind-chimes, for use in homes, hotels and many other places.
Planters and bonsai pots can be made to a buyer's sample, and blue pottery can be customised with painting and background colours. The firm has spacious infrastructure for bulk orders, its own warehousing facility, and a quality check after production for durability, smooth finish and attractive design. Its products have a presence across India, covering almost all metro cities, and its export business, still small, is growing. Its stated aims are unique and antique design, competitive price, timely delivery and client satisfaction. Kamran Ahmad handles sales.
