About windshield beading
Windshield beading is the rubber or EPDM strip that holds the front or rear glass in its frame and keeps water, dust and wind out of the cabin. Profiles vary by vehicle: some lock around the glass edge, others fit into a channel with a separate filler strip, and many carry a chrome or black finish trim. Buyers compare compound hardness, UV and ozone resistance, profile match to the original glass and the length per roll or piece. Workshops, glass fitters and body repair shops use it when replacing cracked glass or resealing leaks.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check the profile cross-section against the glass thickness and the body flange of the vehicle.
- Look for EPDM compound with a stated Shore A hardness and UV and ozone resistance.
- Confirm the supplied length covers the full glass perimeter in one piece.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the vehicle make, model and year range each profile fits.
- Ask whether the filler or locking strip is supplied with the beading.
