About seat latch
Under the seat of most scooters and many motorcycles sits a latch that holds the seat down over the storage box or battery and releases with a key or cable. Cars and tractors use similar latches on folding and tilting seats. A latch usually has a spring-loaded hook or jaw that engages a striker on the seat base. Buyers compare mounting hole spacing, hook profile, striker size, release type (key or cable), spring force, corrosion-resistant plating and the vehicle model it fits.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Match the mounting hole spacing and the latch hook profile
- Check the striker diameter the latch engages
- Confirm the release type: key-operated or cable pull
- Look for zinc or nickel plating and a firm return spring
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the vehicle model fitment and part number
- Ask whether the release cable or striker comes with the latch
