About thrust bearings

Thrust bearings are built for force along the shaft rather than across it. Single direction thrust ball bearings in the 51100 series use a shaft washer, a housing washer and a caged ball set; they suit moderate axial load at modest speed in screw jacks, turntables and vertical spindles. Spherical roller thrust bearings, from the 29400 series up to large sizes such as 294/500, carry heavy axial load plus some radial load and accept misalignment, which is why they appear in extruders, vertical pumps and propeller shafts. Buyers compare bore, outside diameter, height, load rating and lubrication.
