About electric rickshaw
An electric rickshaw is a three-wheeled battery vehicle used for short passenger rides and last-mile cargo across Indian towns and cities. Passenger versions seat a driver plus a few riders under a roof, while loader versions carry goods on a flat or box body. Most run on lead-acid or lithium-ion battery packs driving a hub or differential motor. Buyers compare battery chemistry and capacity, range per charge, motor power, chassis strength, suspension, body build and type approval for road registration. Fleet owners, owner-drivers and municipal schemes are typical buyers.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Check the battery type and capacity (lead-acid or lithium-ion, voltage and Ah) and the claimed range per charge.
- Confirm the motor power in watts and the controller rating.
- Look at chassis tube thickness, suspension type and brake system.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for the ICAT or ARAI type approval certificate needed for RTO registration.
- Ask for warranty terms on battery, motor and controller, and service coverage in your area.
- Ask for the seating capacity and gross vehicle weight.
