About pillow block (plummer block) bearing unit

A pillow block, or plummer block, is a ready-to-mount bearing unit: an insert bearing seated in a cast housing that bolts to a flat surface parallel to the shaft. The UCP series pairs a UC insert, held by set screws, with a two-bolt cast iron housing, and the number gives the shaft size, from UCP202 upward. The spherical outer surface of the insert allows some initial misalignment. Buyers compare shaft diameter, centre height, bolt spacing, housing material, grease nipple and seal type. Pillow blocks carry shafts in conveyors, agricultural machines, fans, blowers and packaging lines.

Buyer's guide

What to check

Shaft bore against the unit number (for example, UCP205 = 25 mm) and centre height
Bolt hole spacing and housing base length to match your mounting frame
Housing material (grey cast iron, ductile iron, pressed steel or SS) and grease nipple fitting

What to ask the supplier

Ask about insert locking: set screws or eccentric collar
Ask for seal type for dusty or wet duty and whether units come pre-greased
Confirm insert and housing brand, and packing per box
