About engineering plastic component
Engineering plastic components are parts machined or moulded from polymers chosen for strength, wear resistance, low friction or chemical resistance beyond what commodity plastics offer. Common materials include PTFE for chemical and heat resistance, nylon for toughness, Delrin or acetal for dimensional stability, PVDF for corrosive fluids and polyurethane for abrasion and impact. Typical parts are bushes, bearings, gears, rollers, seals, wear strips and liners. Buyers compare material grade, tolerances, temperature rating, food or chemical compliance and batch consistency. Pumps, valves, textile, packaging and process machinery all rely on them.
Buyer's guide
What to check
- Confirm the material and grade: virgin or filled PTFE, nylon 6 or 66, acetal, PVDF, or PU with its Shore A hardness.
- Check dimensional tolerances against your drawing, and the surface finish.
- Check the continuous service temperature and chemical compatibility for the application.
What to ask the supplier
- Ask for a material test certificate or batch test report.
- Ask for FDA-compliant material if the part contacts food or pharma products.
- Ask whether parts are CNC machined from rod or sheet, or moulded, and the minimum order quantity.
